Sao Paulo, March 18th, 2014 - NETmundial Logistics and Organizational Committee is issuing an international “Call for Official Remote Hubs Proposals” for the Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance, which will be held next April 23rd and 24th, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Proposals will be evaluated by the Logistics and Organizational Committee according to geographical coverage, adequacy of infrastructure, personnel provision and necessary costs. Official hubs will receive promotion support through NETmundial website and social media, training for local managers and technical support.
NETmundial participation is open, equal and flexible. The entire meeting will be transmitted live in audio, in seven languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) and video to all interested participants connected to the Internet. Remote hubs can be located in any city around the world and will allow an interactive place for people interested in the developing discussions and willing to participate directly with the event in Sao Paulo. It is very important to count on appropriate structures to welcome those participants with the necessary resources, including experienced mediators to support effective interactions. NETmundial organizers would like to ask the support of local/regional leaders involved in Internet Governance initiatives to collaborate in organizing these remote hubs.
What are the hubs?
The hubs are local meetings that take place simultaneously with NETmundial meeting. People can watch the webcast together and send questions and comments, via text or audio, that will be included in the Sao Paulo discussions.
NETmundial remote hubs can be organized among participants and any group of interested people who share a more immediate community or geographical proximity. It should be open and inclusive to interest actors among the local community, as well as the local press. An minimal infrastructure should be provided, such as:
- Accessible location, open to the general public (hotel meeting room, auditorium, theater etc);
- Accommodate around 50 participants;
- Computer and Internet broadband connection availability;
- Computer screen projection and audio system (microphone and speakers);
In addition, it is highly desirable to count on the support of local mediators experienced in Internet Governance discussions to act as mediators, between the remote hub and NETmundial chairs. Further instructions and coordination meeting will be shared by NETmundial Secretariat timely.
